Mitchell Gartland - Head Coach

Coach Mitchell is currently working for Howmet Aerospace in their engineering department.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mitchell swam for Radnor High School and his club team Suburban Seahawks Club for Charlie Kennedy.  He then moved on to The University of Michigan to swim for the varsity team and study Aerospace engineering.  Since graduating, Mitchell moved to Muskegon where he immediately started coaching for MYST.  He has an intense love for all things aquatic.  He is primarily inspired by his old coach Charlie, whom he still consults for advice to this day.  When not on pool deck, you might find Mitchell at the beach, training or working on the house. Coach Mitchell works primarily with the 13 & O's on MYST.,

Nicole Gartland - Assistant Coach

Coach Gartland is a 1st grade teacher here at Reeths Puffer School District.  She was born and raised in Muskegon and holds a lifelong love and respect for the beach and the water.  Since graduating from MSU,  Coach Gartland has been teaching for the last 5 years.  Her greatest love is to mentor and guide as many young minds as possible.  Outside the pool you can find her at the beach, taking care of her plants or the cats, and always has a good book nearby.   Coach Gartland primarily works with the 10 & U's on MYST.  

Marissa Greenhoe - Assistant Coach

 
 
Marissa has been passionate about swimming from an early age, starting at Muskegon Country Club when she was 4 and joining the Muskegon YMCA swim team at 7. She competed throughout high school and swam on Western Michigan University’s club team while earning her MBA. Marissa also holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. Along with her swimming background, she’s a dedicated CrossFit athlete and enjoys helping others reach their fitness goals. Outside of coaching, she works as a paralegal at Bleakley Law Offices, her family’s law firm. At home, Marissa enjoys spending time with her two dogs and is excitedly waiting to adopt a baby with her husband, Brad. She’s thrilled to share her lifelong love of swimming and support athletes of all levels in achieving their goals at the YMCA.
